Moving between the extremes of ‘trompe l’oeuil’ and abstraction, Cady is known for his shaped canvases. His studies of objects, structures, and land/seascapes show parts of the world from acute angles. Solo exhibitions include the Holly Solomon Gallery, NYC Mary Ryan Gallery, NYC, Howard Yezerski Gallery in Boston, Fujii Gallery in Tokyo, Japan, Castelli/Goodman/Solomon Gallery in East Hampton, NY and the Caldbeck Gallery. Cady had a mid-career retrospective at the Center for Maine Contemporary Art in 2017 and an early career survey at the Addison Gallery, North Andover, MA in 1987. His work is in numerous collections including the Addison Gallery of American Art, North Andover, MA, the Butler Institute of of American Art, Youngstown, Ohio, the Orlando Museum of Art, Orlando, FL, the Portland Museum of Art, Portland, ME, the DeCordova Museum, Lincoln, MA, the Farnsworth Art Museum, the Peabody-Essex Museum, Salem, MA, as well as the corporate collections of the Fidelity Bank, IBM, Chase Manhattan Bank, Chemical Bank and Prudential Insurance, to name just a few.
